The MIND Diet

A Dietary pattern that could slow cognitive decline.

The MIND Diet, or the Mediterranean – DASH intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay Diet is a dietary pattern suggested to slow cognitive delay in patients at risk, or in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

How does it work? Although researchers have yet to prove why this diet works, they suggest it lowers inflammation and oxidative damage by including high levels of antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and fiber, while limiting sources of saturated and trans fats that contribute to beta-amyloid plaque formation in the brain.

Foods to include while following the MIND Diet:

  • Berries
  • Green Leafy Vegetables
  • Other Vegetables
  • Cold Water Fish
  • Olive Oil
  • Nuts
  • Whole Grains
  • Beans
  • Poultry
  • Red Wine, in moderation

Foods to Avoid:

  • Red Meat (Beef, Lamb, Pork)
  • Fried Foods
  • Butter
  • Margarine and Processed Fats
  • Coconut and Palm Oils
  • Desserts and Sweets
  • Cheese
